If you are the fastest biggest strongest player out there but don't go ALL OUT 100% to beat you man every time
Guess what you won't!
Alternatively, if you have good stick protection and simply don't give up and take you man on whenever you get the chance, you will beat him and have success a lot more than not.
Very few teams in UK play with a sturctured well drilled Team Offence or Team Defence as it is difficult when players are only willing to train 1 hour a week and even then not all of them turn up.

Go hard or Go Home
Be aggressive
should all help you find success in what in reality is not a High Level of Competition

not too close, not too far - dodge too close and you're stick will be vulnerable to a check. dodge too far away, and the defender will be able to react and deny you space. remember, the better the quality of lax, the less space you should be expecting when you come out of the dodge - at the top level, you're really only trying to get your hands free to make a pass, feed or shot

closer you are less time it gives the d man to react to your change of direction and speed.. its not hard to realise lol. Obviously you're not going to go right up to them cos youll just get merked but like i said before .. as close as you can without them bothering you.. does kind of make sense

keep pretending your only one handed, and do two or three dodges on that to make the defender think you only have one hand, and so they will relax a bit. You then pretend to go the way you have already been going, but instead go onto your other hand. the defender and the slide wont be expecting it, and so it should get an easy shot on goal.

So you waste all that time and opportunity playing worse to then start playing better? Just be deadly both ways and make your opponents brick it.

Buy some plastic discs and put them on the floor
you can then practice dodging them with your mates and throw the ball into the goal afterwards

If you're split dodging from up top, yes try to keep enough distance from the d-man so that he can't get a solid check in, if you are going all out he shouldn't be able to react quick enough to get to you.
If you are rolling your d-man from x (where else would you be rolling from??) and think you are strong enough to manage it, roll him in close. You are trying to get behind your man in this dodge so doing it 6ft away seems a bit silly...

from my experience, ( i play X) unless the D man has some sneaky and crazy take-away checks- like jonny aurthors , getting closer and rolling and driving is better because they get all caught up in the pole if your running with enough speed, that it makes it hard for them to body. Whereas if your doing your dodges from a bigger distance, they can use the whole of the 6 foot + to guard you easier.
