Following the successful trial box/6's game in Milton Keynes on Sunday 26th May (Birmingham beat a Northampton/Milton keynes team 12-4), Milton Keynes Lacrosse Club (MKLC) will be hosting a series of box lacrosse games, every 4 weeks, over the summer.
Dates: Sunday's 23rd June, 21st July, 18th August and 15th September
Time: 7:30-8:30pm
Venue: PowerLeague, Fyfield Barrow, Walnut Tree, Milton Keynes MK7 7WH
Cost: £3 per player, per night
On-field playing rules will be published in due course now we know how the venue works for size, safety etc. These will be a mix of field and box rules. For example, face-off after each goal, no D poles, goalie's cannot cross halfway line, no offside, no shot clock, no 'over and back' rule, no cross checking and no moving picks. For personal safety, in addition to helmet and gloves, arm and shoulder pads are highly recommended.
Two teams will be sorted each night based on who's there. To maximise playing time, please be ready to play as soon as the goals are put up at 7:30pm. At the trial game, we played 3 periods of 10 minutes. It should be possible to play 4 x 10 minutes if we start promptly.
Any profit after pitch hire and referee match fee costs will go to MKLC funds so we can develop box, field, men and womens lacrosse in Milton Keynes. See the MKLC Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/407245649317056/.

Some tailored field/box rules for these games to help volunteer referees and players and most who read these forums will be used to field lacrosse rules.

Re: Box Lacrosse Summer Series
The Milton Keynes summer series has hit a snag. A football league has block booked the field for Sunday evenings, all summer. Apparently for our trial game, there was a booking system problem but as I had booked and paid for the pitch online, they honoured my booking and told football they were down one pitch for an hour. We are looking at alternative dates/times and will post up info when sorted.
Re: Box Lacrosse Summer Series
We're back on. An alternative venue has been found in Milton Keynes, and it's possibly a better venue as bigger, with wooden kick boards for rebounds/hits and with better booking availability.

Re: Box Lacrosse Summer Series
Hello Mate
if you got an earlier time slot I may be able to get a few lads down from the north
i know you have had a few issues with times though

League restructure I told you so 10/3/2011(looking good on this one)
Prem division to two leagues will result in the prem division failing and being combined with Nemla 22/3/2012
the proposed restructure to 8 teams in each prem league will only last a couple of years until it has to be restructured again due to teams dropping out. 13/12/2012

Re: Box Lacrosse Summer Series
The availability for this new venue is much better than the one we used last month. A late afternoon Sunday slot would be possible but for this next game we'll stick to early evening then talk to the players to see what time is best for the majority - and if the new venue works as well as we hope.
Re: Box Lacrosse Summer Series
This Sunday's game will be 8-9pm. Hopefully for future sessions the 7-8pm slot will be free.
Looks like we've got players from Birmingham and Northampton again, plus some from Hitchin and London clubs, to join the Milton Keynes based players. Address further up this thread.
All welcome provided you have the protective equipment - the MKLC club does not yet any spare equipment bar a few sticks. £3pp. Arrive ready to play at 8pm so we can get 4 x 10min periods of play. Changing rooms and pub available at the leisure centre.
Note the astro is quite sandy. This will be fixed at some point over the summer. Apart from that it should be an OK 'box' venue with good wooden boards and a bigger playing area than the PowerLeague pitch we used in May (but that was still fine). The bench area will be coned off as before. If you've not already, scan the rules posted to Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/4072456 ... 242959562/) as we'll be played a field/box hybrid to keep it easy to referee but still have some 'box' fun.

Re: Box Lacrosse Summer Series
The new venue of Shenley Leisure Centre, MK worked well. Better than the previous PowerLeague pitch as better wooden boards and a bit bigger. Just a shame it's sand-astro and not 3G.
Not quite enough players last night for 6 on 6 but a good box session. Thanks to the Hitchin boys who came up to join the MK based players. Plus IT DID NOT RAIN!
We're doing it all again in 4 weeks, Sunday 21st July, hopefully 7-8pm.

Re: Box Lacrosse Summer Series
The next Box Lacrosse session is a week today, Sunday 21st July. Time is 18:45-19:45 as we're on the upper pitch at Shenley Leisure Centre which is in much better condition and not covered in sand.
So far from the two previous Box Lacrosse sessions, we've had players from Northampton, Birmingham and Hitchin join the local MK players. Hoping for another good turnout next Sunday.
£3pp to cover pitch hire.
Location: Shenley Leisure Centre, Burchard Cresent, Shenley Church End, MK5 6HF

Re: Box Lacrosse Summer Series
The next session, Sunday 18th August, will be a mixed lacrosse game, not box lacrosse.
The reason is twofold;
1) Some of the female players local to Milton Keynes are missing their lacrosse
2) Some of our regular players from the Hitchin club can't make it due to a Wales Lacrosse event
Cost will remain at £3pp to cover astro hire. Male players just bring your stick (except the goalies). We probably have one goalie confirmed already, another would be wonderful.
Start time will be around 7pm, subject to actual booking one week before. Slots are 6:45, 7:00, 7:45 and 8:00 on the two pitches at Shenley Leisure Centre, MK5 6HF

Time confirmed as 7-8pm. All welcome for a social mixed game, on astro, at the venue above. £3pp to cover pitch hire. A second goalie would be most welcome.
Re: Box Lacrosse Summer Series
It's that time again up in Milton Keynes. Sunday 15th September, 7-8pm, box lacrosse on the lower astro at Shenley Leisure Centre (full address in previous posting). £3pp. All welcome provided you have sufficient protective equipment. Perfectly timed as we approach the new league season.Get your stick skills sharp. Get you defence solid. Get your heart and lungs pounding.
