I absolutely agree and I myself own a womens stick for this reason (its also a good laugh on the beach!)

however as I have said before the move to all womens sticks would be easy if your club alredy has a womens team but could potentially screw things over if not. At herts we have a number of guys who play mixed to try and help the girls get a womens team together, these guys play for that reason and that reason only BUT unfortunately we have found in the 3 years we have existed that if you give any of teh guys teh option of playing mens only they take it.

Requiring a womens stick would in effect kill off our mixed team at herts and potentially the prospect of a womens team too. This is obviously opinion and may not actually happen. additionally it doesn't mean they club wouldn't resurect itself from the ashes but still, is it a risk worth taking?

I open the floor to debate.... this isn't meant to be negative, but how can we work around these issues?

thats quite a statement.... ok maybe you will get less guys playing mixed because they dont want to buy another stick, however if you dont have a mixed team, wont the girld be more encouraged to sort out the womens team, so they actually get to play?

you would have thought so wouldn't you! The problem we have is that every girl we have ever had join the team is either a nurse, physiotherapist or model maker and they all have huge mid semester placements. last season we had to postpone 2 games as we couldn't get a single girl for the game (we have 23 officially down on the team), obviously this is a completely different issue but its some of the more lax addicted guys who make things work, they're also teh ones who wouldn't want to play with a mixed stick.

At teh end of teh day I think the best thing to do will be to change the rules and see what happens, i "think" our team may be killed off but that doesn't mean it would, and even if it does it may well ressurect itself

ok another girls opinion, and im sorry but i completely disagree.
marking guys with guys sticks is the same as marking them with girls sticks - u shadow their stick to block the pass and go for interception. yes they can keep the ball in their stick more easily, but they have to pass in 5s, and most girls have alot more practice so are better than keeping the ball in a girls stick than guys are.

secondly guys dont have the monopoly on nasty checks. if checking were allowed then it would only be to the same level of womans, since no pads, and its not like they're gonna wind up before they smack ur stick head. in some ways, especially picking up, no checking prevents hacking, which is easy if the players are neew to the game, which most are. so thats a reason for no checking, but not cos guys are more violent.

finally i agree that the game is just fun. we're all usually still pissed from the night before and its mainly a way for the 2 different sports to socialise. the main reason i play is cos its more chilled and entertaining than the competitveness of womans, but im still pro guys sticks...

Absolutely. I've probably seen about as much ladies' lax as I have men's (not that this is a lot) and I've seen far more injuries in ladies'. OK, that's partly because they don't wear pads, but in 3 or 4 days of watching ladies' lax I've got photos of wrap checks going horribly wrong, cross-checking in the kidneys, slap checks on the fingers etc etc. I've also seen the ambulance being called over on three occasions.

Women are evil. The 'no checking' rule is for our protection, not theirs...

women.....
it's the lynx that does it!

I intend to waste cans of the stuff on a sinlge player and then send him onto the pitch to lead the women away, and if he takes some of our own too, thats a calculated loss we'll have to live with, whilst using man power to score goals!

I like that idea! Should send that to the company that makes lynx and get them to put it in an advert ;)

Essentially pocket depth is one aspect which gives an unfair advantage, however there are several other points to take into account. A men's stick, regardless of the pocket depth will still give advantages e.g. the sidewalls are higher than in a women's stick, but the major point to take account of is the 'what if......... if someone gets hurt by someone using a men's stick against the rules? The umpire and/ or you will be responsible and could face a potential claim which insurance won't cover!

i would think tying your mens stick tight every game wasnt a great idea anyway as it will mean you'll keep altering your pocket and lose consistency in your mens game

yeah did consider that ash but as of the moment the mixed team is sort of one 2 hour training session + a game every now or then whereas mens is a lot more messing about with friends + training so it wouldnt have been a massive problem but ur right! and i get the insurance claim.. guess il hav to fork out £20.. not the end of the world.. just means its £20 away from my new mens head.. oh well, thanks a lot guys for the info :)
