Long pole shooting
Anybody got any tips about how to improve shooting with a pole?
I've only been playing for a season but was hoping to teach myself to shoot this summer, any help much appreciated.

Practice the long pole step, kinda like a cricket bowling action with a javelin crossover for high speed run and gun.
If not find a space big enough to swing your stick, and work on wrist strength and forearms, then go for repitition repetition reptition.......maybe i should have followed that advice.....but i am learning to let shorties score now so no biggy!!!:P

dead right--the shot's got to come from over the shoulder. that maximizes the advantage that a longpole has when shooting; change of plane. If you shoot from above the shoulder and bounce the shot, the goalie will have a really tough time tracking it, so if you're on cage, you will probably score.
Life is good. Lax is better.
Alto shooting sidearm does look fancy (when you pull it off), it really hurts your back.
I've only ever shot from the shoulder in a game. I don't really practice, simply leather the ball somewhere just in front of the keepers feet and pray.

amazingly i tried exactly this about 18 years ago to the date, what i found was that all my shots went consistently 20 cm to high and 5cm to the right.
to rectify this i inserted some permanently unset concrete into the bottom of the shaft and found that it produced a 7.5 on the whipometer perfect for me (a stonger player may want more tho!).
