On Sunday 11th November the annual YCLA Freshersfest event took place at the University of York. The event was attended by 6 universities - York, Hull, Sheffield Hallam, Leeds, Newcastle & Nottingham Trent - bringing 91 new players to their first experience of competitive lacrosse. The event was once again well supported by Northern Soul Sportswear who generously donated a prize for the tournament winners and the MVP from the final.
The entrants were split into two groups of three (Group A - York, Hull, Hallam; Group B - Leeds, Newcastle, Trent) with the top two going head to head in Semi-Finals before the winners progressed to the final and the losers went to the 3rd/4th Playoff. The two teams finishing bottom of the groups would face-off in the 5th/6th playoff.
Sheffield Hallam & Leeds University were group winners with York & Nottingham Trent joining them in the Semi-Finals. As it was, York & Trent were able to overcome the two group winners. Newcastle edged Hull 1-0 in the 5th/6th Playoff, Leeds beat Hallam 2-0 in the 3rd/4th Playoff. In the final, York ran out 4-1 winners over Nottingham Trent, runners-up for the second year in a row.
1st - York University
2nd - Nottingham Trent
3rd - Leeds University
4th - Sheffield Hallam
5th - Newcastle University
6th - Hull University
Many thanks to all the volunteer referee's and coaches who were there all day supporting the event and their teams.

Re: YCLA Freshersfest 2012
Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend the tournament this year but would just like to thank the YCLA committee, and particularly Gareth, for organising this tournament again this year. Those who went from NTU (both playing and 'coaching') have come back saying it was a very worthwhile event (again) and really enjoyed it.
