Alumnis and Union Affiliations.

Postby Hickey7 Tue May 24, 2011 3:53 pm

Looking to see how many Students Unions endorse the Alumni reunion matches and following celebrations.

This year our union has decided to cuts its affiliations - as such the uni sports ground now has to be paid for, there is very limited parking there. We no longer have access to the mini buses or to the Su.

It seems silly to me, but the reasons being the "drinking culture" yet Freshers week is still hosted by the union?

(im sure there is more to ours then we are being told but thats that.)

I just wanted to see other uni's are you unions supportive of Alumni or not and supporting reasons.

no support here - though as far as I'm aware there never was (for any club I mean, I know there never has been for Lax). I think insurance and drinking culture have been some of the reasons discussed.

Birmingham has a massive Alumni day, we all pay for tickets though so that's probably why... :\

thats what our union used to do, but this year they have just turned around and said no. seems unfounded.

We have an annual "Presidents" (alumni) weekend. It's all organised by the club, the AU don't really play a part as we just ask our groundsmen to mark a pitch out wherever there isn't cricket being played (usually on the rugby pitches), aside from the one year when the pitch had to be marked in flour.

For the last two years however, the only way to buy a ticket is through the union website. Makes it a lot easier for the current club members as they don't have to worry about paying in/chasing up checks, likewise for the alumns who can get their tickets sorted from wherever.
