Warm Up Games

Postby UKLaxfan Wed Jul 07, 2010 3:17 pm

There will probably be lots of warm up games prior to the WC2010 when teams start arriving next week, it will involve some intriguing match ups.

I'm sure fans/players visiting would love to check out some of these games

So when and where are these warm up games taking place?

Lacrosse historically hasn't done a good job of marketing itself in UK, so how about starting now letting fans knowing where they can watch the best players on the planet.

USA vs MLL All Stars

It's weird that I'll be able to watch this game live on TV in glorious technicolor with slow-mo replays and multiple angles but I can't find out when and where to watch my own National Team playing locally

Sadly not! The teams are using their allocated training slots at the Firs to hold the warm up games. The French team gets to Manchester on Saturday. I assume the others are the same.

Don't think this has been posted, but some good footage of Team USA in action in their last warm-up (pre MLL game of course).

Typical Friday surfing...

I'm in the mood for a pre footy warm up - what's on today?

Where are the teams training? Is there an allocated training schedule?

Quint Kessenich commentating at the MLL All Stars Game mentioned that USA were playing a warm up match against England on Monday - can anyone confirm if this is correct?

Also, looking at the recent Lacrosse talk it appears that England played a scrimmage against a Wales team. Was this a recent game? Anybody see it?

Didn't go down but think it was about a fortnight ago. Was the UK based players, and finished 4-4 from what I know

Really enjoyed it yesterday - went for a potter around with meladdo. Didn't know there would be nippers playing, so watched a bit of that, watched the Aussies and Japanese training - Aussies really look handy, and the Japanese seemed well drilled.

Venue's looking good - well set up; fair play.

Mooched over to Wilmslow to watch a bit of England and Wales warming up.

Everyone seemed relaxed and well up for it in both camps - players and coaches.

Jaysus, Wales have got a big 'un at the back. What does he do when he's not playing Lacrosse? Kidnap maidens and climb f**king skyscrapers? Big hairy brute.

Must admit, made me miss the game - good banter flying about - I think this tournament's going to be a cracker, jealous not to be involved.

To all those who are, in whatever capacity, enjoy.

Apart from the refs, obviously. :D

Australia 14 Scotland 4

Took place on the main pitch at The Firs this evening.
Played over four 15 minute periods.
Good game to watch.
Couple of hundred people watching by the end! Mostly players from other teams...

Not sure if the Iroquois match is going to happen.

What a shame, I'd have been up for heading down and watching that if I'd known it was on.

Sadly not - I was taking video for the coach from the back of the stand, and all I could see in the viewfinder was matchstick men and matchstick coaches and Hods :)

Usual stuff though - full rosters getting a run-out, fully committed play without any unnecessary silliness, and the chat afterwards was that both coaching teams got what they wanted out of it.

Scotland players were particularly happy - first time we've played the Aussies in the Field version of the game.
