Improve Lacrosse as a spectator game

Postby cybermouse Mon Jun 28, 2010 6:54 pm

I'm just a fan not a player. I would like to see Lacrosse become a major sport.
It will not become that, in my view, because spectators find it difficult to follow
the ball visually.
Why, oh why, does not some manufacturer of Lacrosse balls
make them more visible to spectators.?
Are they daft or completely hopeless?
Could be white with black spots....Could be flourescent....come you people
with brains why don't you use them.

Actually the ball isnt hard to track at all when looking from the stadium. On tv its a bit hectic, but thats because the cam has to follow the ball and the operator is looking through the lens of the camera.

They already do make different coloured balls, including glow in the dark ones! Over here during the winter I find the easiest to pick out is a (newish) white ball.

MLL balls are orange - presumably because it's easier for fans to spot the ball
ahhh ... the whit

but it would require a rule change - only white and orange are legal in FIL play. I think the ELA extends this to include yellow.

The MCC are trialling pink cricket balls as they try to test out test match cricket in the day/night format. More visable to both players and spectators than either the traditional red or limited-overs white balls.

If you've watched any MLL games recently the Orange balls are almost invisible on TV in daylight games, the White ball is far easier to see. The MLL ball is about $$$s not visibility.
