Postby chippie Tue Dec 02, 2008 10:08 pm

Another england player will be going to college in the us and play lax...hopefully this will benefit the national team, like other countries have benefited from.

Camilla Hayes, who played for the england team at the euros will be going to university of california next year....she joins...

Laura Merrifield @ Maryland who got lots of gametime as a freshman and will be starting a lot of games this season taking over dana dobbies role of taking the draw!!

Kate Newall @ Notre Dame...starting her first season

Players who have played in the US:
Lucy Lynch @ JMU
Laura Warren (wales) @ Maryland

It's not the team with the best athletes, it's the athlete's with the best team

Just spotted that another England player, Charlie Finnigan, will be going to play at the University of Virginia next year.

Think that there is mention of some of these girls in this quarter's lacrosse talk magazine and interview with Lois Richardson.

I wonder if it includes her goal tally playing for Loughborough seconds vs Oxford seconds :?:

Strong squad this year...who knows, on her way back from injury, disciplinary reasons...could have not deserved it for any number of reasons

also what does the AU have to do with selection (very little in my day - god i'm getting old)

Why the surprise?

There are a number of English girls who could have excelled in the NCAA if given the opportunity to train & play in that competitive environment.

Loughborough, Cambridge, Oxford, Edinburough, Birmingham have all had athletes who could compete at very highest level.

NCAA Colleges have the funding & facilities to provide Full-Time Professional Coaches as well as the tradition & culture to give athletes every opportunity to excel, wherever they come from.

Previously, some of the Senior British Coaches actively discouraged players from going to US Colleges which was bizarre in my opinon. I'm glad to see more English girls going this route.

Women's Lacrosse is THE BEST WOMEN'S TEAM SPORT, above Hockey, Netball, Football, Cricket or Rugby

Watching NCAA Final Four games from 2008, they compare favourably as a spectacle with any other televised women's sport.

Not surprised because she is English, more because she is there as she starts her Sophomore year...

more press on our player..

8 - Maryland
(18-3, NCAA Quarterfinals)
The Terps have reached the quarterfinals twice under head coach Cathy Reese, but now Maryland has the task of replacing eight starters, including two Tewaaraton finalist midfielders in Dana Dobbie and Kelly Kasper. The Terrapins still have a fast and dangerous midfield with juniors All-American Caitlyn McFadden and Amanda Spinnenweber. Australian National Team member sophomore Sarah Mollison and English counterpart Laura Merrifield look to have big impact this season in starting roles.

The big question mark for Maryland is on the defensive end. Junior Karissa Taylor will lead the unit as the Terps look for a starting goalie plus two new defenders.
