Who else feels sorry for Northampton Town Weasels - battling to stay in E2 - why cos Hitchin A fielded Wavey against NTW and he won the game for them. Hitchin A got a 2 point dseduction and poor old NTW got nout out of it. They seem to inadvertantly get the tough end of the stick far too often. Especially as they are now a very solid club with good prospects for the future. Good luck against London Univ.

Thanks Ian always knew you were one of the good guys

I do however think that Northampton were given a 10 - 0 win in that Hitchin match, so it seems this time we actually were on the right end of that stick. I've got to say Northampton's current predicament is due to our own doing, conceding a game to Spencer definitely didn’t help and not having the same commitment/players as last year when we came so close to promotion is a big issue for us.

Personally I’ve enjoyed this year far more than last year, even though we are in a relegation battle. Every game has been a struggle, there are no walk over’s between the East 2 teams anymore and I much prefer it that way.

If the Spencer 2 v Cambridge original result stood (11 v 6) Blues 2 would have won East 1 - updated table below.

Played Won Drawn Lost For Against Goal Diff. Goal Ave. Points
Walcountian Blues 2 14 9 3 2 123 63 60 1.95 35
Cambridge Univ. 14 10 1 3 121 79 42 1.53 35

Not so fast. If the Spencer 2 v Cambridge original result stood, then the Blues 2 v Cambridge game on March 12th wouldn't have been a dead rubber.... so Cambridge probably wouldn't have sat six or seven of their starters.

In the Cambridge v Blues 2 game before Christmas Cambridge won, albeit narrowly; I'd contend that this is a better measure of the respective strengths of both teams.

Counterfactuals don't work like that. The seven starters that didn't play in the final game against Blues would have travelled if the league title were still at stake - three of us were at the South Unis training camp instead, for instance. Given the result of the only other game where we fielded our full-strength Varsity squad (13-5 win vs. Brighton) I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that the final game would not still have ended 16-1 to Blues if this had been the case.

I wish you had brought your full strength team down, we had one of our strongest teams of the year and it would have been a great game.

Still do I sense a raw nerve there in your reply as I think you got lucky with your appeal vs Spencer 2 ;-)

Thanks Dave - You're welcome down at Epsom any time you like Mate. In fact you're in the right age group to get a game.

Looks like Dave Gibson (ex Wilmslow) did drop that one.

Interestingly, the photographer is Steve Harrison ex Cambridge University Goalkeeper who found us via our website and him and his son both enjoy taking sports photos for a hobby - so just turned up.
