D5 Cup

Newcastle Vs Birmingham

After last weeks nightmare of getting up at 6am and driving to the end of the A42 before snow and ice got the better of us, Birmingham couldn't muster enough working cars to get up to Newcastle.

The Toons were in a similar situation and so couldn't make it down to us, so unfortunately Birmingham have had to concede the fixture.

Real shame as we had been trying for two weeks to get the northerners down to ours to double up the cup and league fixture, but can't be helped.

So are you both going ahead with your originally planned fixtures?

Normal games are scheduled but Brooklands B have conceded to Brum as they cannot raise a team.

Are you sure about that?

I'm slightly out the loop but as your cup fixture only ceased to exist yesterday I'd be surpised if Brooklands conceded th original fixture as it had been unscheduled to accomdate the Nigel Wayne fixture. More likely said they couldn't arrange a side in time. You can't expect anyone to drum up a side to travel in less than 48hrs notice and penalise them for not achieving the impossible/highly unlikely!!!

I don't know about the conceding side of things, and would rather a game be played at a later date, but I rang Russell this morning to try and get the game to go ahead as we have a pitch booked.

As such, if any other D5 sides find themselves out of a game this weekend and can get to Brum, we have the best kept pitch in the North available, hockey-girls ready to shower, and a pitcher in the pub with your name on it! 8) 8)

Newcaslte v mersey - Postponed mersey unable to travel due to regular drivers away and short notice to arrange other means...disappointing but understandable

We're all disappointed that the game has failed to go ahead again, pain in the bloody arse. Just a side note though - from past experience, Matt Nugent and NEMLA frown upon doubling up fixtures - we weren't allowed to do so with Oldham before Christmas. I told your man Wilson this, but he didn't seem to want to believe it (understandably).

Norbury 5 - 10 Leeds

Good to have A) a game and B) a competitive game. Scoring was very close in the first half (about 4-4 at half time) and could have swung Norbury's way early in the 3rd were it not down to a massive 1-on-1 save from Gilly and a lucky/well timed trail check from a certain LSM. Leeds followed with with 3 transition goals in as many minutes which really defined the game.

Some confusion over start times and who is responsible for providing an alternative strip at the beginning, but all was forgotten once the game got underway (and Norbury flipped their kit) and we rode out our technical penalty for not having enough men to start at 2.

Well put Ian.
Can anyone solve the debate of what time matches are supposed to start. I thought a few years ago they decided to always make it 2.15pm? I'm probably wrong though (I almost always am!)

I thought it was 2 unless the light wasn't going to hold, in which case it was 1:30

Hull 8-11 Ashton A

1st Q: 6-4
2nd Q: 1-1
3rd Q: 1-3
4th Q: 0-3

Played in a sunny Hull with not a black cloud in the sky!!We should have wrapped this game up in the 2nd quarter but didnt and allowed Ashton back into the game. Didnt play to our strengths from beginning to end and ultimatly it cost us. Reffing was worse than poor, but it affected both sides equally ultimatly. A number of bad tempered moments, fortunatly not so much on our part for once. Both keepers failed to really excel. In the second half the Ashton keeper was hardly tested, whilst our keeper struggled with a shoulder injury, massively affecting his clearing. Only positive for us was that 3 freshers got some more game time and we finally got some more gametime in '09!

Could someone from Brooklands B or Heaton Mersey C PM me asap. We are playing Oldham next week at Oldham and want to make up for fixtures lost to the weather by maybe playing one of you on the Sunday!!!

Mellor A v Ashton result

Postby Koyunbaba Sun Feb 22, 2009 11:12 am

Mellor A 4 Ashton 8

Good game of lacrosse played on a reasonable pitch in pleasant weather, who could ask for more. It was a game of two halfs really. First half we cruised to a 7-1 lead second half Mellor A raised the tempo and they won the second half 3-1. Tough game, well reffed that threatened to boil over once or twice because of the committment of both teams but fortunately it didn't and didn't spoil a nice game game.

Good luck to mellor in their last couple of fixtures.

All the best
