Nottingham 0 - 1 Norbury

Tough match between these 2 and credit to both defences for keeping the score down as low it was. MVP went to Woody for his wondergoal which amazed the hundreds of spectators on the sideline. He managed to dodge the entire Nottingham team before an around-the-world feed to himself on the half-way line before finishing with a one handed behind the back crank-shot from 30 yards out. A thing of beauty.

Wilmslow 1 - 0 Leeds

Another tough match in Prem 2 this weekend. Neither attack were firing on the day and it came down to a bizzare own-goal to settle the tie. A great run from goalkeeper Simon Gill saw him "slowly" advance up the field faking player after player until he found him self presented with a great goal scoring oppurtunity. Having got a little carried away and dizzy from the lack of oxygen to the head, he lacked the composure to finish neatly and instead opted for a crankshot from just outside the crease. The ball managed to hit the cross-bar at full force, and bizzarly manged to rebound the entire length of the field in to his own net. MVP went to Alex Pearson for his shut-out at the other end.

The 2 results see Norbury survive to fight another year in Prem 2, with Leeds relegated to fight it out in Prem 3. Credit to Norbury who deserve to stay where they are, and to Leeds who just simply didin't after an extremely dispointing season.

Goes to show these "play off" round games or whatever it's called is a waste of time

Why?

I can't speak for notts, but Leeds would have to have conceded the match regardless of whether it was last season's structure, or this years. We simply didn't have enough available players, and this had nothing to do with the structure.

I'm with trig. We too would have played all 3 of our play-in games were it not for the fact that we were down to around 7 players being available for each game! Had they been in February as originally intended then we would have fulfilled them all.

If we had scraped 9 players we would probably have played them all

Thanks Trig, that was a much more accurate report than our cup semi final reports on the ELA website, although I reckon Woody was only about 25 yards from goal.

Play ins - not a bad idea, but too late in the season and surely they should be between bottom of one division/top of the division below? Notts and Leeds finishing in the bottom two might prove they were weakest in a very strong Prem 2 this year but wouldn't it be better to find out if they are stronger or weaker than the top 2 in Prem 3? Ditto bottom of Prem 1/top of Prem 2?

Nottingham have struggled for quality and reliability all season but had fielded minimum 13 players at most of our games. Gaps in fixtures, injuries, retirements, AWOL players and finally University tours put pay to our season along with A series of demoralising heavy defeats. After 6-7 regulars from last season graduating/working/going etc the HUGE jump in standard between the 2 divisions was too much to handle.

From a club point of view the prem structure has not helped our cause with the differences between the divisions being large. Also the knock on effect of BUCS programmes training and playing 5-6 times a week has meant that lads coming in from manchester prioritise BUCS teams over the NEMLA team.

I have tried to keep the team playing week in week out but alas couldnt.

I also think that without a 3-4 week break in October when the players were keener and the weather better we would have completed most if not all of our fixtures.

SEMLA appear to have had well over 100 matches conceded so far this season?

They train together 4-5 times a week. Go out together and have a full time coach. Club just cant compete with that
