The NBA Finals are on currently, Game 3 was last night Heat vs Spurs and immediately after each game both teams send representatives to a Press conference this is usually the Head Coach and 3 players.
the level and depth of knowledge of the game and themselves along with the professional and articulate manner in which they deal with open and sometimes bizarre questions is admirable, they are aware of the nuances which shift momentum in games as well as tactics and strategy.
This is true for Baseball, American Football & Ice Hockey
there is demand and obviously contractual obligations on these Professional players most of whom have gone the the NCAA College system.
the difference compared to British Football players is startling not only are the players far less articulate but the media questions are a lot less demanding.
In golf, tennis, Formula One and many other sports, professionalism is as important off the field as on it and yet for the National Sport Football no such standard exists,
We are about to have 4 weeks of not stop footy from Brazil blasted at our senses via every media outlet but the quality of punditry or Colour Analyst as they are known is USA is quite staggering.
Dumb & Dumber eat your heart out
Gary Neville for SKY Sports has been the exception and a breath of fresh air, actually sharing knowledge and insight on the game but unfortunately he will be on the England Coaching staff so we will have to wait for the 2nd round of games before he is available.
European footballers don't share this lack of self awareness and to be fair it is more an English rather than British plight, there have been lots of Scottish & Irish players who have succeeded in the media post playing careers.
So why are English players so thick?
why is it acceptable for these multi millionaires to be so unprofessional off the field?
Frankie Boyle probably put it best for comedic effect...
"why pay Wayne Rooney £300K per week when he would probably be happy with a tyre on the end of a rope"
There are x6 more professionally qualified football coaches in The Netherlands and x9 more in Germany than in the UK.
Grass roots football is all about competition at an early age when they should be practicing and being coached then when they get older 16+ it is all about training when they should be playing in competition.
Canadian Lacrosse had a Coaching pathway 20+ years ago
Coach for Fun
Coach to Learn
Coach to Compete
Coach to Win
why is it English Football still struggling with the concept?
Come On England Come On!!!
NEWSFLASH: I don't believe England will win the World Cup 2014

I have the solution for footie punditry; mute. (except MNF)

I hear Ji Thompson didn't want his boys playing competitive junior lacrosse, so they played for fun in their back yard until he considered them mature and capable to join in. Seems to have allowed Jeremy, Miles and Lyle to create their own styles.

Re: Sporting Intelligence
watched the Wayne Rooney presser this evening and the puffball questions were disappointing
Why not ask him why he has never scored a goal for England in the World Cup Finals?
How about what he will do differently this Tournament?
Also watched the Cesc's Story about Cesc Fabregas & Spain, all the Spanish players interviewed showed more perspective.
England could be playing minnows internationally and yet the stock phrase is always that the opposition are very good technically, as though this is cheating.
Not like our good old English players who can run all day full of vim & vigour and steely determination but can't control the ball or pass it to a team mate under pressure.
Another blast from the past Jimmy Greaves once said of an England International player
"He can trap a ball further than I can kick it"
"he couldn't trap a bag of cement"
Sturridge was given credit for not reacting and punching the Honduras player who kicked a ball at him
in reality he was naive, any other player would have gotten the player sent off
call it streetwise or gamesmanship but England will have an incident where they will be naive and be penalised for lack of awareness, Wilkins, Beckham, Rooney it's happened before and will happen again and we will be surprised and outraged once more.
same as it ever was

Jerome Thompson Sr is a remarkable man
he has coached his four sons himself and all four have or will play professionally the game they love
Lyle has one more year at Albany and has opportunity to break more scoring records
Re: Sporting Intelligence
The BBC (TV and Radio) punditry team includes some good, some bad, some boring, some unknown......
Gary Lineker, Mike Ingham, Alan Green, Rio Ferdinand, Thierry Henry, Clarence Seedorf, Juninho, Tony Pulis, Brad Friedel, Neil Lennon, Alan Hansen, Alan Shearer, Chris Waddle, Martin Keown, Kevin Kilbane, Mark Lawrenson, Danny Mills, Danny Murphy, Phil Neville, Robbie Savage, Pat Nevin, Jason Roberts and John Hartson.
Let's hope they make the next month of our lives full of interesting commentary and insight, and challenging interviews.

Nice piece. I absolutely recommend Uncle Danny Baker (@prodnose) as the antidote to piss-poor coverage, although he occasionally tweets under the influence.
