England Games

Postby kael101 Thu Jan 27, 2011 10:52 pm

Trent'Captain ( Kyle Maundrell ) is doing some assessment work on England Lacrosse matches- He's looking at how percentage of passes, ground balls and possession of passes affect the score sheet. Here's some for what he has found so far.

"the code created recorded possession and passing events. Possession of a team began when a player had control over the ball in their stick. Possession finished when either the player was tackled, a foul occurred, or the ball went out of play. A completed pass was considered the ball reaching a team mate without any sort of interception"

"Results showed that games won had a mean possession of 34.48 ± 1.46 minutes, with 30.05 ± 1.30 minutes when a game is lost, compared to a mean time of 59.09 ± 3.99 minutes of the ball being in play. This was after all possessions less than two seconds were removed. "

"From a total of 592, the average passes per game were 84.57 ± 50.48, with a mean of 8.02 ± 2.08 before each goal. "

"Statistics show that 44% of goals originated from midfield, with 23%, 20% and 13% originating from attack, defence and goalkeeper respectively. "

"The findings of the study differ from those of F.A. Moura et al. (2007) in that the majority of the goal scoring possessions originated in the central portion of the field, rather than the defensive third. However, this could largely be a result of the differences between lacrosse and football. It is, however, in agreement with Garganta et al.’s (2007) assertion that there is a much larger success rate for plays consisting of three passes or fewer which suggest that a fast paced and simple attack would provide more success in lacrosse"

Take from all that what you will- He wants to further his research and really start to look at possession between players and look at past matches to make a comparison. To do this he needs as much match footage as possible. If you have any full match footage of matches outside of the 2010 Word champs then please drop me a mail and i will send you his email address.

Thanks in advance
