Attack Plays
Attack Plays
There are a number of plays you can use in attack to create scoring opportunities, some are based around Team Offence where all six attacking players are involved in creating space or occupying their men.
There are also a lot of two & three man plays which don't need to be as structured or organised.
Pick & Roll: (2 Man Play)
The pick and roll is more common in box lacrosse than field because it doesn't need much space to run it. It is however very effective in field lacrosse and favoured by a lot of Canadian players with Box experience to create high percentage scoring chances close to goal. Zack Greer (Duke) had a lot of success last year with it, setting picks for Matt Danowski and there will probably be more teams utilising it in 2006.
The basic play involves an attackman setting a pick for the ball carrier, then rolling away from the defender toward the goal keeping his eyes on the ball. The ball carrier has two options if the pick is successful go to goal and shoot, if the defence reacts to the pick or doubles the ball pass to the pick man who will be driving to goal.

may explain this terribly but will give it a go.
A pick is when a player acts as a blocker to allow a team mate to lose the man they are marking. Their hands of the picker must be inside their body and they are not allowed to move.
Basically the team mate runs past the pick as close as possible (literally shoulder to shoulder) forcing the player marking them to run into the pick or at least veer round it giving the attacker time and room to catch a pass and make a shot.

Watch a game
You need to watch a bball game or definitely a lacrosse game because it is bound to happen. But what it is, is running behind the defender of (on offense) your teammate who has the ball and stand there. Your teammate will run in your general direction and you HAVE to stand there or you get called for a moving pick.
Pretty much you are taking one for the team...
Regardless if you are playing a trick or not...I still appreciate the money from posting a reply!!!

Wow, here I am sitting in Latin class, and the guy in front of me blatantly did not put on deoderant-what's worse, the chicks on the otherside did the same thing...
Does this help?
If you say Basketball is similar then this might help you, its not a video, but it does describe what happens clearly.

I see I have a lot of work ahead of me.
We'll run through picks on Tuesday lads. But essentially its one player standing completely stationary while another attack man runs past in an attempt to make his defender run square into the stationary man.
Can any Laxformers recommend some pick drills?

four corner drill - player#1 starts drill passes to player #2 (eventual shooter), to #3 and #4 who feeds #2 off a pick by #1. clear as mud. basically, set up your usual 4 corner drill, and whoever shoots comes off a pick set by the person adjacent top to him.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight...
