Top Ten Middies 2008

Postby UKLaxfan Thu Aug 09, 2007 6:23 pm

Inside Lacrosse haven't release their NCAA version yet

but I thought I'd have a go at UK version.

1. Dave Leach
2. Andy Brickell
3. Paul Flowers
4. James Mitchell
5. Chris Bland
6. Sam Davidson
7. Dave Bryant
8. Dan Heighway
9. Andy Ellison
10. A.J. Beard

Middies is by far the toughest position to choose from, their are so many factors that go into making a good middie and so few players who excel at all of them.

Who've I missed & what does your Top Ten look like?

EDIT: Dave Leach goes to No 1 as he is the first English player to get a professional contract to play lacrosse with the Colorado Mammoth of the NLL (21-09-07)

As I said Middies are the toughest to call.

Matt Baguley (Blues) was an oversight, I really rate him as a complete two way middie.

Is Paul Fullerton still playing? I thought he had retired, got married and settled down?

Fully was a Top middie but this is a 2008 list, if he was still into it he would be in with a shout.

Face-offs were a tough call and almost a separate section like LSMs but I went for overall middies. James Mitchell is a Face-off but also a two way do everything middie as well.

Marriage does not necessarilly mean the death of a lacrosse player, Fully is not yet done, but he is certainly not carrying as many club and national responsibilities!

Dave Leach would make a box team but not a top 10 feild player, watch out for Neil (nig) Marshall bigger, stonger, faster and back after a 2 year break

Am not really experienced but what are the specific reasons for a box player not making the field lax team? I thought Canada had loads of box players in their 2006 Worlds team?

what he is saying is that Wavey is not as impressive when he plays field and although he may be a top choice for box there are other middies that are better than him in field. Simple as they are 2 very different games, you would have to have another list for top 10 box middies i guess... not that you could actually fill that in the uk at the moment.

And wavey isn't a box player by trade, he's field and only just picked up box.

I look forward to seeing Nige play Bigger, Stronger, Faster - sounds like South Park the movie. He was a big knacker to start off with.

Dave Leach made the ten on Field performance, he has kept on improving, I saw im in the Flags Final 2006 and he dominated along with James Mitchell.

Just goes to show an Old Dog can learn new tricks but he has to want to.

Dave McCulloch? - very very effective, fantastic off-ball. Another one from me no longer in the prem - all my favourite players seem to have got relegated!!
I was once part of the winning Pop Lacrosse team that defeated Wigan in the 1992 Greater Manchester Youth Games.

Dave Cluney (Purley)

Postby UKLaxfan Tue Aug 14, 2007 5:20 pm

I'd be tempted to add Dave Cluney at SSDM.

Dave played on the England Box team but would think he has an excellent chance for the England Field team, I don't know if he tried out for 2006.

But at 6'2" he has the size and power along with speed to be a SSDM, he is a serious athlete it's a shame he isn't playing up North so everyone can see him play.
