Playing defense is a lot easier if you have a head on your stick, catching & throwing is much harder without.

It's intended to reinforce good footwork. Yorkie trains with one and he's a good dman, so I'm not going to fault it.

same effect is gained by using a short/broken n taped up stick minus the head... or left over bits of attackers, whichever is handy.

I got mine involuntarily when joey snapped my short stick with the first check of a game. I just filled it with gravel (to weight it the same as a regular long pole) and put it to good use. I recommend any cut down stick for a long pole wanting to work on footwork. Just find the quickest guy on you team and get him to run at you for a couple of hours a week and just body him away from goal.
Job done!

I'm a big believer in teaching defense with no stick or a stubby. Helps the players learn proper footwork, positioning, etc. before they try and do stupid stick checks.

Doesn't stop me trying to Ice-Pick attackers if they get past me!! Then again, I am used to having a stubby one.
