Communication

Postby Becca B Sat Jan 12, 2008 8:38 pm

Hey!
Playing in Aber we really have to coach ourselves and as the experience in players is so widely ranging its difficult to know how to teach the importance of communication, especially in defence.
Just wondering if anyone could give me some tips/communication drills that might help my quiet defence!?!
Thanks, Becca x

Communication

There are a number of ways of emphasizing or improving communication within a team, depending on exactly what the problem is.

1) In practice 5v5 or 8v8, don't let anyone speak while playing defence. Hopefully they should realise how difficult it is to defend with NO TALK.

2) Repeat 1) but allow Goalie Only to TALK

3) Repeat 1) but have a spare defender stand behind the goal in the crease and She is the only one allowed to talk

4) Allow everyone to TALK on Defence

There is big difference between Talking & Communication, if defence are talking but communication is poor, then try to get an agreed Team Defence Language.

Be Specific
Be Clear
Be Brief

Good Luck

we actaully went over this on tuesday, we practised alot of 4 on 4, 5 on 5, etc,

all defenders were told consantly to call who was the next slide/cover

the attack were told to only run cutting drills,

the idea of multiple attackers cutting and changing position in the settle meant if the defence didn't talk then all hell would break loose
