The Back Check

Postby UKLaxfan Sat Jul 07, 2007 5:06 pm

This is a check made by a defender striking an opponents stick behind his back. This can have spectcular results with the stick being knocked out of the opponents hands.
It can also be known as "helicopter" or "windmill" check

Also nice to hear about Rhod's "lifting slap check" - not sure of the actual name but if wrecks and is very very affective, underused in by long sticks

Rod actually looks beat in that picture, watching him he seams to get beat all the time then pull off a "get out of jail free" check. after having made them beat him on their left hand.

Nice one dave just pump up Rhods ego a little more!

Anyways it doesn't matter how many spectacular take away checks you pull off if you insist on getting back doored at least 3 times a game

Where did the picture come from?

isnt that check kind of a gamble as the short stick can just swing his stick to the front if he is paying any attention

Well yea but its fairly safe to assume Rhodri is good enough to pull it off in international games.

I wouldn't really recommend it to beginner defenders as they do have a tendency to overuse it and get burned. At least untill they can pull off those kind of checks and not lose body position

As you can see in the picture with the crease and the back of the goal, the defender is beaten at X behind, but throws a trail check, back check in this case and strips the ball.

Pat McCabe (USA/Syracuse) told the defenders at the SU Lax Camp,

There is always more time than you think or another chance to make a play as attacker gets ready to shoot.
