I've recently instituted a pressure defence at Chichester Uni (thanks for the advice, Dave). Today we brought it out in a game for the first time. Our team had several freshers, including one of the longsticks. Eventual score was 5-3, and that includes conceding 2 quick goals in about 3 minutes in the fourth quarter. For the first 3 quarters Portsmouth were reduced to outside shots, which as an inexperienced side they weren't too successful with.

I've found the zone easier for the new guys to pick ip than man defence. You don't have to worry too much about slide packages and so forth, you don't have to be as quick as the attackers and it's pretty hard for them to get an inside shot. Next step is pressuring at X...

Advice needed:
When running a backer zone, where would you put the third pole (assume no LSM)? Crease or backer?

Are there any videos/diagrams/detailed explanations of the backer zone? All I've found are some posts on other forums about the pros and cons.

At chichester we are now running a backer Zone. Dan Sawyer is the chap to talk to because he understands it perfectly. We took a long time to get the zone working effectively but now we are managing to hold opposition on the outside of the zone where their best chance of scoring is with a good doger and outside shooter
