I once did this trick, but instead of baking it I stuck it in a bucket of boiling water. Make sure to tie the head to the ball so it doesn't expand too far outwards and you're good to go.

I bought the ESPN player for the championship last year and it had great coverage, no idea about conference games though sorry.
