Re: Wrestling dropped from Olympics

I'm by no means an expert in this.....but in the medium term I reckon lacrosse has got a decent chance. The decision on what sports to include isn't really done on a very scientific criteria. And emotion and gut feeling come into it a lot. Some sports like squash may get in due to years of waiting ...

Re: Should we move SEMLA to the Summer?

Sweet riposte! Solicitor! Ooh now I am scared! What about holding the Southern Flags as a Summer competition, that would free up some weekends in the Winter and give a practical trial to the Summer games idea. Might see an improvement on the large percentage of conceded games, or is 10-0 a fairly r...

Re: Wrestling dropped from Olympics

6x6 it's not quite as simple as you and many others appear to think e.g there is no longer the recognised 'demonstration' sports category. There is a lengthy process e.g. lacrosse was not even an 'officially recognised' sport until last year when it finally became an accepted member of SportAccord (...

The Crux 10 is non-FIL approved, therefore illegal for use in the UK.

Could have 2 more 'Premiership 1' teams next season to spice it up even more, under the restructuring.

Re: Should we move SEMLA to the Summer?

An interesting article in a recent edition of IL, concerning the amazing performance of the Iroquois to beat the USA U19's. The claim was that the USA were able to 'invite' to trial from a pool of 100,000 players within that age group!! A reason why US players are queuing up to find teams to play on...

Re: Results 9/2/13

League Republic shows Wilmslow 11 Mersey 10 ...... not sure who entered that result, but it was 10-9 to Mersey!!! It still baffles me why there is no monitoring of the results, to ensure they are correct and complete. NEMLA Premiership 1 is the prime league in the country (all due respect to SEMLA) ...

Re: Should we move SEMLA to the Summer?

Just a couple of thoughts where the south debate may vary from the north one (if it ever gets that far!) ..... the youth programme in the north is well-established and developed around a winter sport .... change it to a summer one, and maybe in time it might work as well, if not better, but what wou...

Re: Should we move SEMLA to the Summer?

I'm always surprised that no organised summer league has ever started over and above SEMLA / NEMLA. Whenever there's a scrimmage there always seem to be rucks of players (of all levels) keen. I'd be keen to know how many players would be up for it and how many could be dragged along. Even if a few ...

Re: Congratulations ELA

I believe the biggest problem that we face in lacrosse is the apathy amongst the larger population of the game. Just take the restructuring of the NEMLA leagues (may it RIP), where changes were pushed through without the vast majority of players ever bothering to have any input. So you end up with d...

Re: Game Re-Start after Quarter Time with Man Up/Down

He indicated that 'Red saved' but didn't say whether Red goalie had possession? What if goalie saved, the ball goes out of play, with Blue nearest, surely Blue would have been awarded possession? Unless the whistle goes before the ball is out of play, when neither team would be in possession.

Re: Possible league restructure proposals

I am coming at this from another sports aspect but it's plainly clear that Lacrosse is unique and has a mentality of it's own. We discuss how the game needs to grow, yet there are rules in place that disable clubs with more than one team to manage their members as they seem fit. There are rules in ...

Re: Possible league restructure proposals

Nottingham are not a "struggling club" as such, they are just changing. They have a very committed committee who are doing gret work to grow city links again and encourage youth lacrosse. They just had to adapt as nobody was migrating from Manchester anymore. My understanding on Nottingha...

Re: Possible league restructure proposals

Trig ... no the A-Team was not loaded at the expense of the 1st Team. In my example it was a 'play-off'' situation pre-season which I guess is a 'grey area' not covered by the rules. However, there have been some unusual results already this season where 1st Teams haven't played, and A-Teams have do...

Re: Possible league restructure proposals

I believe in the new structure that clubs are less likely to try and load their lower teams. The only time I have ever seen complaints about clubs loading their lower teams is when their higher teams have been without a fixture. I have not seen (or heard any complaints) of clubs playing weaker play...

Re: Possible league restructure proposals

John (Moaning), has already identified a growing discontent within the top A-Teams in NEMLA 1, about the limitations on competitive games following the original restructuring. Sometimes I wonder why these opinions don't get through to the 'people making the decisions'?? The gulf between the top 3 t...

Re: Possible league restructure proposals

There aren't often many transfers between clubs are there? We often see quality players go to the big clubs to play in the prem (or boost England chances) but it surprises me that more players don't leave those bigger club's A Teams to play elsewhere for similar reasons. I would have thought the re...
