Re: Croydon Lacrosse - New Ground & 3G pitch

Great news. Should help with the recruitment and retention of players too. Well done Croydon.

Re: Results 01 Feb 14

Maidstone 2s 5 v 18 Brighton

Closer game than the scoreline suggests. Both teams created chances but Brighton were perhaps a bit more clinical with their finishing. Having said that, the Maidstone keeper made a string of impressive stops and certainly did not have a bad game at all.

Re: Ideal number of teams in a division

5 teams with no matches? Sounds like 5 teams that could be providing referees ;) Quite right. How many years on the bounce is it now that games are being postponed left, right and centre due to "unprecedented" bad weather? We cannot handle the division sizes we currently have without conc...

Re: Results Jan 25th 2014

Reading 2 vs Maidstone another victim of the weather! Looking at the fixture list an overwhelming proportion of games with clubs with no astro access have been cancelled throughout January. Was the same last year..... Hate to say it again but we should start the season 2 weeks earlier and take Janu...

Re: downturn in number of posts

Controversy. There isn’t any, or at least none that’s posted on here . All of the longest threads on this forum were to do with some controversial game (Hawks vs Bucks), or decision or throw away comment (Harvergoalie being my favourite). Without these heated debates it seems really just somewhere ...

Sadly another early result:

Brighton 10 v 0 Blues threes. Blues conceding due to lack of players.

Re: Results 16th Feb

Thanks Tree. That makes it only 13 games. As our Flags and League game was played as a double header. It wasn't scheduled originally as a double header, was it? And as we have already seen, there are a couple of spare weeks in the season. I believe several Astro pitch games have also been cancelled...

Re: Should we move SEMLA to the Summer?

If moving to the summer meant hundreds of new non-university players could be recruited, and that junior programs did not have to compete with football and rugby, then the loss of a handful of uni clubs is a small price to pay. On point 1. In your dreams! Perhaps. But at the moment, football and ru...

Re: Results 16th Feb

So many things to mention, where to start? Firstly, I thought we had established that weddings only occur in the summer? I'm confused. Secondly, If you don't like the 10 - 0 wins, stop taking them. Epsom had no games listed for either the second or the ninth of February, you're not in Flags or the P...

Re: Should we move SEMLA to the Summer?

You will lose all University teams in the league. We still have BUCS but there's no way London Uni or Oxford would stay in SEMLA since they struggle with the current dates anyway. exams for Unis often don't end till June/July so even if by some miracle you had players in the vicinity a lot of them ...

Re: Should we move SEMLA to the Summer?

I've been thinking for a while now about a short summer evening league. It would be along the lines of booking somewhere like Battersea Park Astroturf for five or maybe six consecutive Wednesday evenings in June/early July. There are two pitches, side-by-side, with a net inbetween that would allow ...

Re: Should we move SEMLA to the Summer?

I am very much against this proposal. I am very committed to Lacrosse, the sport I love and have missed one game (National Team try outs) this season and don’t plan to miss another. A fair amount of us from Hillcroft have had to awkwardly arrange our ski trip around a game in order to not miss it. ...

Re: Should we move SEMLA to the Summer?

Matt, the proposal you posted is excellent. I'd say the drawbacks you listed at 4) and 5) are probably not issues, because the Wilkinson Sword and the Iroquois Cup could remain in their current places - the participating club simply moving their corresponding league fixture to one of the free weeken...

So glad to see the you are keeping your contributions dispassionate! Not quite sure why you're rolling your eyes. Also not quite sure if you've actually made a single definable point in counter-argument yet. I'd much rather debate the points raised, as I demonstrated by responding to your cl...

Re: Possible changes to football calendar....

The status quo is not being maintained though! The status quo to which I am referring is the current scheduling model for league and flags competition, which sees fixtures played between October and April. There are no proposals in the pipeline for any change to this, therefore the status quo is fi...

Re: Possible changes to football calendar....

We can't play games over Christmas / New Year, or Easter What about EG Christmas Cracker, The Croydon v Purley boxing day game (ran for about 40 years I believe), The Easter 8's, The Centurion sixes.. to name but a few. Would the existence of any of the above serve as a satisfactory reason for leag...

Re: Possible changes to football calendar....

I am afraid that your description lacks vision, and simply does not make allowances for the facts. You are looking at Semla, and by extension Nemla, but you also talk about growth of the sport. Who says that growth equates to expansion of the leagues? There are other forms of competition. I would s...

Re: Possible changes to football calendar....

Considering the position dispassionately, summer lacrosse is a runner, summer becoming the home of the league programmes is not. What we need to do is ensure that that we maximise the playing opportunities available between September and May This. We don't play September to May. League and Flags ru...
